Operate Multiple Companies with 1 BC Company with Dimension 1

Business Central is organised with a strong separation between companies, enforced at the table level where each companies have their dedicated tables.

While this has excellent advantages, it also creates challenges for organisation who have many small companies that operates in the same industry with very similar processes. What if you wish to have the same set-up from chart of accounts to all the set-up tables? Maybe you want to perform some operations, like invoicing in bulk, for many companies at the same time?

For these organisations, it is worth considering another approach, by using the dimension 1 as the company identifier and keeping the books separate per companies.

How?

  • General Ledger Entries transactions have to refer to one dimension
  • General Ledger Entries transactions can only refer to one dimension
  • Maintain separate Entry numbers and transactions per dimension
  • Extend the responsibility centers to hold company information
